Philip Dittmar, MD, FACP, FHM - President

Dr. Dittmar is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his training in Internal Medicine and completed a Chief Residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He currently serves as an Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency, Director of the Internal Medicine Sub-Internship, and Director for the Internal Medicine Clerkship. His current interests include resident and student education, medical simulations, and quality improvement.

Tiffani Panek, MA, CLHM - Vice-President

Tiffani Panek is the Division Administrator for the Division of Hospital Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and serves as the Program Coordinator for the JHUSoM Academic Hospitalist Advanced Specialty Training Program at Bayview. She has an MA in Applied Sociology with a focus in Healthcare, and completed the SHM Leadership Certification Program in 2014. Her current interests include readmissions in underserved populations and diversity in Hospital Medicine.

Christopher Jason, MD - Secretary-Treasurer

Christopher Jason is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his residency in 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. His research interests include quality improvement.

Carrie Herzke, MD

Carrie Herzke, MD - Immediate Past President

Dr. Herzke is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She completed her training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Duke University in 2008. She currently serves as Director of Clinical Operations for the Hospitalist Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital and as Director of the Mary Elizabeth Garrett Service. Her current interests include resident and student education, infectious diseases, and quality improvement.

Asha Tata, PharmD - Advisory Board

Asha L. Tata is an Internal Medicine Clinical Pharmacist at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland and holds a clinical practice on one of the internal medicine teams as well as the Antithrombosis Clinic. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2005 and completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency and an Adult Internal Medicine Specialty Residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia from 2005-2007. She is the Coordinator for the Pharmacotherapy Residency at the University of Maryland and has received both leadership and precepting awards. She is a member of various hospital committees including the Medication Error Adverse Drug Event Committee, the Antimicrobial Subcommittee, the VTE Task Force, Medication Reconciliation Process Improvement Work Group and Insulin Focus Group. Asha is also the Secretary for MSHP and actively involved with ASHP, ACCP, and SHM.

Barbara Chalom, MS, PA - Advisory Board

Barbara Dunbar Chalom, MSPAS, PA-C is currently a Hospitalist at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD. She completed her undergraduate degree at George Washington University and her Physician Assistant studies at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004. She currently serves the Hospitalist Clinical Coordinator of Orthopedic Comanagement at Suburban Hospital. Her current interests include quality improvement and the utilization of Epic as a certified physician builder to improve workflow processes.
